working on a lt1 car with opti spark first what should the crank ref angle be set at

is there a way to check the timing with a light

Crank reference angle is 6deg.

Unfortunately there are no timing marks. Also the balancers are not keyed from the factory, so they may move slightly. (sometimes a lot if running a supercharger)

To check timing, you will have to use a piston stop to find TDC, then mark the balancer to a reference point. Then set timing to 0 & verify with it running. Wish there was an easier answer.

Despite the info we have gotten as well as publish, most people I talk to with LT1s say they use a reference angle of 1 degree to get the timing right. I always thought it was 6...

Lonnie is right about how to get it set properly though. PITA.

i have mine set to 6 and i did make a pointer, found tdc, and checked with a timing light and my timing was dead on.
