Looks like a typical 7.5 rear end. The tag is a posi tag.

edit: also looks like someone wrote some pretty vulgar words on the differential cover.

No it is not original. 1984-87 turbo Buick Regals (Grand Nat'l and T-type) as well as the 1984-87 Olds 442 came with the stronger 8.5 rears while all other G bodies received the typical 7.5 rear.

Since you say this is under an '85 T-type, someone stuck it there in favor of the 8.5 rear. Is your car a theft recovery? Or did it once belong to someone who "bought it for parts took what he needed and sold the rest"? Those are about the only few reasons I could think of someone would swap an 8.5 out for a 7.5.
