In 2003 I installed a kit in my 84 and had tons of trouble. This was my first and only experience working on a trans and I did it on an uneven street with just a floor jack. This Saturday I plan on tackling the 87. This time I at least have a garage and the car will be on jack stands.

Anyways I remember having a hell of a time getting the check balls in the right positions and getting them to stay there while re-installing everything. Is there a trick to this? I don't remember specifically what gave me trouble but I know they kept moving around or falling down.

Any tips are much appreciated :D

X2-on that
Thats what I do....A nice little blob "not to big not to small" on the hole then put the ball in the spot.... make sure you can see the balls when your holding the plate that there still in the same spot when you put that 1st bolt in that holds the 3-4 spring and the plate.... dont crank the bolt down all the way ..yet enought that you know the balls are in the right spot and can start the bolts for the valve body.....;)
Works every time!!!
