I just bought a stock 87 gn and it came with an upgraded head unit. I want to put the stock one back but when I did it started smoking even though it seemed to work fine. I can't figure out why it would short out when the new one didn't. both are connected with the stock connectors. Is it possible the power antenna could be the culprit? If anyones had similar problems please let me know

TIA

If you are using the same factory plug that operated the aftermarket head unit to plug back into the original style radio then the "short" is probably something inside the Delco that started to smoke for a few seconds and quit. If it is working fine then I wouldnt worry too much about it. It could be a substance that got on the internals that just burned off when energized. Just make sure that you have the proper size fuses in just in case it decides to short out again. Make sure that there isnt any bare wires making contact with any metal.
