Helmet?

Do I have to wear a helmet when drag racing. I'm going to Ford vs Buick day in NJ and don't really know what my car has to have. I'm guessing it has to do with speed. But thought I'd ask.

Depends on how fast you go, but I wouldn't get on the track without one

Faster than 14.0 needs a helmet (Snell 2010). Unless you run your car in reverse down the track you should be faster than 14s.

per your sig line, you've got a roll cage in the car, but didn't think you needed a helmet?

why snell why cant it be standard...D.O.T helmet like for a motorcycle or ATV, reason being i dont have one of these helmets and dont feel like throwing down $300 to get one. My buddy raced his car in a ATV helmet. I know it may be a stupid question.

Any style helmet that's snell rated (2005 or 2010) not DOT. Snell ratings are what auto racing organizations chose as their safety standard. Much higher than DOT. Europe has it's own standard and it's tougher than Snell from what I hear. It can be "m" rated, I think once your faster than 10 I'ld go with the auto one with the fireproof lining. If your spending money for a new helmet go for a 2010 since it will good for longer than the 05. I bought a new never used snell 2005 on ebay 2 weeks ago for $44.95 shipped. Guy has them all the time.
