Is the 84 Ttype grill (blackout package) the exact same grill as in the 84 GN? Thanks,Steve

Mine was black & chrome with "Regal" on it. I think the GN was all black with the top strip being chrome like the other years.

Yes those grills are the same. It is also the same grille as the 85-86 GN. Now the 85-86 T-Type uses a different grille. The 84 T-Type also did not use a T-Type nameplate on the grille whereas the 85-86 did.:)

uh oh,... i've got to call you out on this one turbofish, although, i could very well be wrong :p

is there any way you can check the pn's for the 84, the 85, and the 86 grill? i think they are all 3 slightlly differant. there is a obvious differance between the 84 and 85. the 85's have a slightly thicker chrome bar added every 4 or 5 or so going across whereas the 84 do not. the 86 have the same grill as the 85, except that the slightly thicker chrome bars are not chrome, and are just black.

i have a 84 and can post pics. somebody with a 85 gn could post a pic? and then a 86?

Scan through the pics for the auctions over at eBay. No difference than what I wrote. Here's the list of part numbers from the 44W Regal Parts Catalog. You can check the RPO codes on the SPID label.
25525744=84 Black Grille RPO TL6
25525744=85-86 Black Grille RPO BX1/TL6
25515915=84 Chrome Grille
25526036=85-86 Chrome Grille
25526035=85-86 Black Grille RPO TL6
25526613=87 Chrome Grille
25526614=87 Black Grille RPO TL6

All 85-87 GN/GNX will have both the BX1(No Hood Ornament) and TL6(Black Grille) codes which signifies that those grilles(except 1987) are GN specific.Basically the 84-86 GN Black Grille was the 84 Regal Chrome Grille painted black on the spokes. Now there is a blooper floating around out there. Buick released a press photo of the 1985 GN which showed the 85-86 Chrome Grille painted black with the wider spokes left chrome. I believe that Buick wanted to keep this theme of the painted chrome grilles going to distinguish the difference between the years but for some reason the GN grille was never changed and the 85-86 T-Type grille had these exposed chrome spokes painted black. Which is strange indeed because if you're real sharp you can spot what year any Regal is just by the details of the grille and front panel. You can even tell the difference between the 85-86 T-Type although they share the same grille. The 85 has side marker lamps that have a silver painted border where as the 86 uses chrome border side marker lamps. Like I said if you're sharp you can tell what year any Regal is just by looking at the details. Even with the 84-86 GNs.;)

hmm... i stand corrected. and now my confusion makes sense. and look at this picture here on this page of a 85 gn: Google Image Result for http://www.gmphotostore.com/images/53219385_pr.jpg

kind of hard to see what i'm talking about though in that picture.

even the 85 1:18 gmp model has the grill i'm describing, course theres other stuff they screwed up with that one too. i have seen a couple 85 gn's that must've had the grill replaced with a 85 t type grill. which is what also probably confused me. thanks turbofish. and i hope you come through ok with the job situation
