fuel tank sending unit

Can a bad or broken fuel sending unit play havoc with the ECM? Meaning, can it cause the car to run poorly or does it have nothing to do with how the car runs? I have the digital dash and mine is broken(the sending unit), sometimes it reads that I have a few gallons then sometimes it reads empty and flashes at me. I know I have gas in the tank. I just want to know if this can make the car run bad. Thanks.

Eric

If I'm not mistaken, the ECM never sees any info from the sending unit, so you can cross that one off from your list of worries.

My car does the same thing, Id quite like to fix it.....where is the sending unit located?

The sending unit unfortunately is in your gas tank. If you haven't had it off to upgrade from a stock pump, you really ought to, and it would be a perfect time for a new unit.

Ya...thats where I figured it was, Ive dropped my tank before when putting in the fuel pump, but that was a while ago.
