Thats what we did the other night on my boss's T-Type. Works good too. I think we cut the tire 10"x2" I want to say, and drilled holes through the rubber and bolted it together. Also rattlecanned the hanger for rust prevention. Came out great! I shouldve taken pictures...
We used hardware we had lying around, nothing special at all. Im pretty sure we used standard stuff.

Brain at GBody has the straps & stainless hardware for $12 or $15??

Yeah, but we did this in under an hour from conception to installed on the vehicle for about $5.
Cant beat that.

Now if I could just find the piece that bolts to the exhaust, I'd fix mine too...
