Engine swap for a 1984 Pontiac....

One of my daily drivers is a 1984 Pontiac Parisienne, basically a Caprice. It has over 170K miles on it, but is rust free (it was my grandpa's car and garaged in Florida until 1999 when he passed and left it to me), and still a comfortable boat.

The 305 Chevy (rated at about 140 HP and 240 lb ft. torque) still runs OK, and has just about enough power to get the car out of it's own way. If I had to estimate, it would be lucky to do 0-60 under 13 seconds.

Anyway, when the time comes to put the 305 out of it's misery, I would like to know what would be the cheapest way to give the car some much needed poke. I am not talking about a screamer, just would like the car to be able to get to 60 in 8 or 9 seconds.

Mabey a good running 350 TBI out of a Caprice 9C1 or a Camaro?
Any ideas are appreciated.

A Vortec 350 with a mild cam would wake that car up nicely!
Check out the GM's 350 delux or look for a long block from a 96-98 Chevy/GMC full size truck. Tremendous power for the money.

"Why not a turbo Buick motor?? .."

Way to involved and expensive for a daily driver. I just want enough power so the car can actually acclerate(sp?) rather than
saunter up to highway speed in 18 seconds.
