I went to press on new bearings for my 28 spline eaton posi and the ones I got from the part store were too small. Is there a special carrier bearing for these? Thanks.

I found this on their website:
All Eaton differentials made for General Motors 8.5" and 8.6" axles require special bearings. For axles with small bearing bores (race O.D. or 2.89"), usually found on vehicles prior to 1999, bearing LM102949 and race LM102911 are required.

Id be on the phone with Eaton/summit/jegs have them supply the correct part #.
nosensegettingin a huff , its was his reponsibility to get the proper bearing
he said he bought them from a parts store ,and apparently bought for the stock center not forthe aftermarket eaton
the eaton is aftermarket and doesn't come with bearings (because bearings usually come in a master install kit) and they are larger than the OE 28 spline posi
the bearings for eaton have a larger ID so they can make the centers ( posi and spools) to accomodate larger spline axles so they only need one bearing for 33 - 28 spline centers
he just needs to get the bearings for eaton /aka "spool " bearing and be done
if you buy a master rebuild kit for the 8.5 and have a spool or an eaton posi you have to order the kit accordingly
