Cleaning intake tract

Hi all,

My brother took his first trip up the street in his Turbo T since ditching the full-of-oil cat. When the turbo spooled, it smoked. When he pulled up the driveway it was still blowing blue smoke until it cleared itself up and idled clean again. We got looking at it and noticed oil *pouring* out the intercooler hose connections and at the TB. Turns out it wasn't just the exhaust side of the old bad turbo that was polluted. The intercooler is full of oil (just like the cat) and the inside of the TB is caked with oil. Should the TB and the intake be taken off and cleaned or can we get away with spraying something in there while it's running?

TIA,
Jim

Look on gnttype.org for the spring cleaning. It covers how to clean the intercooler. Do a search here on GM top end engine cleaner. You run the car, turn the up-pipe up and slowly pour in the cleaner. When you get to the last 1/4, dump it in so that it kills the engine. Let sit for approx 15 minutes and restart. Be prepared to smoke up the neighborhood. I would change oil and plugs afterwords. Do not do it inside the garage. You can get it at any GM parts store. Make sure it is the liquid and not the spray. Again, search here for the part number.

R&R the intercooler adn clean it, then this would be a good excuse to get a SMC alky kit and it will self clean the t-body and intake for ya.
