Clapping type sound?

Ok, When i start my car cold, I hear a clapping type sound. I pinpointed the noise comminf straight under the Cam Sensor. Slowing goes away after the car warms up? Anyone know what this noise is and why is it there?

I have 300,000 miles on my cam sensor and it makes no noise but many report noise from the sensor.

Some also report some noise from forged pistons.

Got any more info about the issue here - lots of miles? knocked it hard lately? oil pressure OK? Timing set condition?

I will say this:
long ago before my engine was even modified beyond a chip, it would maybe, a few times per year, in hi-heat conditions, it would make noise like something was very wrong with the valve train/cam/lifters. it would go away and all was fine - maybe a lifter freakin' out a bit?

Had the exact same problem but never figured it out. (Motor was pulled)
I will say (not to scare you) that in MY case, the engine had "a few mechanical" issues.
