So I'm watching the 40 year old Master Greg Maddux throwing mystery balls at the Cardinal hitters and after goin thru the lineup for the second time without putting hits together, the Cardinal Babies asked the umpire to check the ball for a foriegn substance. Now if they did that to Carlos Zambrano, the stunt may have worked since Carlos is a head case, but the old crafty veteran just continued on with the pitching beatdown. So Maddux is 4-0 and lookin good, I just wish he would teach the rest of the team to pitch exactly like him. Cardinal Fans dont worry my Cubbies wont be there in September, but look out for the Mets!

wutever - We weren't cryin at all - as a matter of fact listen to the post game interviews.... erverybody gave Maddux his props... He is a GREAT pitcher and a future Hall of Famer... yes he made us look like fools but thats what the greats do :D oh yeah the Cubs suck.....hahahahah

Excellent response. Just Kidding.

I was just tryin to get one of u started, I agree with all of what u said ---as usual Cardinal Fans are the most intelligent fans in baseball, right up there with Boston fans. They both know the game and can appreciate excellent play even when its on the other team. I always attend the Cardinal games when they come to Wrigley and I was also there when Boston came to Wrigley to play my beloved 4th Place Cubs. Excellent insightful talk with both groups of fans. Man I love this game. Hey U want to trade Puljos for Lee? :D

The Cubs start off hot!! but they will fall at the end like they always do. Go Cards!!!!!!

Thats great----

U live in Illinois yet u like the Red Birdies  What is this world coming to?

How about that 6 run 8th ining tonight.

Wait till u guys watch sportsceneter--Thank God were playin the Marlins. CUBS WIN CUBS WIN.

BTW, Maddux is known as The Professor, not Master.

I'm sure Maddux was both amused and pleased when the Cardinals asked to check the ball - pleased because he knew he'd gotten into their heads and thus the win, number 3XX, was a foregone conclusion.

I'd like to like the Cards but:

1. They strike me as the NL's version of the Yankees. Why? Beats me, but they do.
2. I can't stand Tony LaLawyer. Lawyers should be chasing ambulances, not managing ball clubs.
3. As great as Pujols is and a good a citizen outside of ball as he is, success breeds contempt. He is, after all, a football player playing baseball. Unfair advantage. Plus, I can't believe how stupid the opposition continues to pitch this guy. Like they're ever going to get him out. He should see the same **** as Bonds. Which is to say, nothing at all. Walk hit. Hit him, for crissakes. But put your ego aside.

That sounds good to me. I am going to the game tonight with my 7 year old boy. I got some free tickets from a buddy of mine.

That was some impressive pitching... not wanting to start stuff but Maddux has always gotten a slightly bigger strike zone than most pitchers (i really am not trying to take anything away from him) but this is how it seems watching games (for the record i didn't care who won between the cards and cubs as long as they beat up on eachother) Good luck to both teams and Go Stros...and Lidge better get a 3rd pitch because what happened last night was unacceptable.

Maddux is as good as there ever was at the art of enticing/inducing the hitter to get HIMSELF out, which is the TRUE pitcher's art. In many ways more impressive at his craft than anyone who ever threw 95-100 MPH. The thing that surprises me is that more pitchers don't emulate him. They continue to cling to the notion you can throw the ball by someone. Maybe. Maybe not. Maximum effort, often with minimum results.

Maddux is also the best fielding pitcher I've ever seen, a perennial gold glove. He is for all intents and purposes a 5th infielder, making it that much less likely you'll reach base against him.
