car took a turn for the worse.

I was at a stop light, and all of a sudden the car just went out of control. Turbo gauge was going crazy, idle was going irratic. And then the car would die. It would start up, but youd have to give in gas to keep it going. It was running really rough. About a few days prior to this i ran out of gas on the highway (no fuel gauge and that california traffic) Could this be involved with the problems the car is having? Car had to be towed off the road. Any ideas as of what is going on?

Hmmm...that irratic behavior sounds like it might be the coil pack....mine did that a while ago and it was the coil pack that was bad. Replaced it with an 86-87 unit and all was good.

did you try changing the fuel filter? Alot of times there is a bunch of sediment at the bottom of the gas tank, and the fuel sock on the pump may have let some through, which could probably clog the filter and cause the car to starve for fuel. It would rather inexpensive thing to try if you haven't done it already.
