Much less probability of doing damage to the paint if it was out. Also, the torquing of the head bolts will be easier and more uniform. Overall, it would be better to pull it in my opinion.

is that paint or bead blasted on the aluminium parts? it looks really good

They are bead blasted then have a light coat of eastwoods "alumablast " paint.
looks natural and holds up great ! oh. That's the motor before I put it in.
It's time for an upgrade....;)

it can be done in the car but it's definitely easier to do it out of the car. If you're putting in a roller cam I wouldn't even try it in the car as the best/easiest way to check end play is to pop the cam plug out and use a dial indicator.

edit: also, if you're going to do the cam I would pound some new cam bearings in at the least. I would actually at least check all the mains/rods as well but that's just me.

I fully agree. If you're putting a roller cam in it, pull it out. Last time I did a heads and cam install I did it with the motor in the car. It took a week of adjusting the thrust on the cam. Lots of leaning on the fenders. Should have just pulled the motor.

Have any pics of the two 69's? They look pretty nice. My favorite car of all time, check out my album for pics of mine.
