Buick trans, but not GN/T-Type

I have a friend with a '97 Buick LeSabre that has a trans problem. It's throwing a code--P1887, TCC Release Switch Circuit--and, oddly enough, when the outside temp is warm, bucking like the TCC is locked up, but when the temp is cold, not bucking. I told him it sounds like a bad TCC solenoid, but I haven't got a clue why it would do this when it's warm outside and not when it's cold. Any thoughts? Plus, how hard is it to change the TCC solenoid on the FWD Buick trans? I've done it on the T200-4R no problems, but not on the FWD.

Uh oh. That's a 4T65E, much of it is WAY different from the 200-4R. Yes, there a L/U solenoid, but P1887 is a problem on these units.

On this page is some conditions to set this code:
Pontiac Sunfire DTC P1887

And removing the side cover is a royal pain! It's NOT like dropping a pan.

Sonnax had a Sure Cure kit to help this problem, but it's an overhaul only type set up.

Check all the wiring & connectors outside the trans first.

Ouch. I won't offer to fix it for him... Sounds like another trip to the dealer is in store.
