mike booher had 3 blocks that had the pan rail cut off like that one,
not good in my opinion, amazing it has been sitting some where for 26 years,

Actually my very first stage 2 block was like this and I just didn't know that it was Any other way. The engine shop told me that if a rod broke it would destroy "hopefully" just the pan and not the block. I have never seen a block like this with a chunk missing or repaired. Maybe there was truth to that story.
