Awesome vacuum brake pump idea

So I converted to vacuum brakes. I didn't want issues braking while under boost so decided to put in one of the SSBC/comp cams vacuum pump in it. Absolutely the worst vibrating noisy pos I've ever owned. So, as I was contemplating hydro boost I saw a few newer volvos that had a pump attached to their boosters. So I did some research and they are for factory turbo cars and some n/a cars for cold days to assist with vacuum. So is nagged a few at the boneyard for $7 a piece! Bench tested them and they are insanely quiet and instant vacuum. So I decided to use two of them for very quick pump down and if one shits the bed I have a back up plan..lol..

With it all hooked up I turned they key and about 8 seconds full vacuum was had....and absolutely couldn't hear a thing or feel any vibrations. Everything was had for less than $50 and I couldn't be happier. I may add an extra vacuum canister for extra capacity but want it hidden away for sure.

Cool....there are many cars that had these from research I did...the Volvo v series has them on the drivers side under the fuse block. 10mm socket and had one out in minutes. These are over $200 new and the chick at the counter had no idea how to charge me. I told her they were like washer pumps and thank goodness I did...lol...I used 16 gauge steel plate and 1" spacers to space the pumps from the plate.

If you get any more let me know. I have been looking for ones the pump that is on my 2002 Yukon. The problem is mine is the only on I can find.

What year?

The Hhr SS has one on it the ones that did not come with on has a tsb to install one with a new addon harness.

Larry, I surely will....gaston, I'd say from 2000 up maybe. The part # is up28. Do some google searches and you'll see a few other models like chopped39 said. I saw a vw Tuareg with the same pump as well yesterday at work.

Do you need two? How are they wired up? (run constantly or kick on only when brake is applied)?

I'm sure one would be enough as that's what the cars I got them from had on them. I ran two and fused them separately in case one locks up or whatever. I used the switch that SSBC has in their kit that turns on at a set pressure and off at another. I did run a one way valve after the pumps as the pumps don't hold vacuum when the turn off.
I have a dual ported booster and have only one side only fed by this setup. Now that I know it works perfect I plan to put engine vacuum on the other side to see how it changes things....I'm concerned the factory style valve won't hold strong enough and under boost it will pressurize the booster causing issues.

Love the idea and ingenuity for sure. Love the salvage yard trips and ideas/builds. Very nicely done. Love the blue as well. Your car is dead sexy!

Sounds like you already sourced the one way valve, just put another one in on the engine side.

I like the mod, how much do these pumps weigh? I went with hydro boost on my Regal, but might want to try something like this on the GS if I go with a cam that doesn't provide much vacuum.

I had an odd ball one laying around from I have no idea where....lol..I'll check out grainger for sure. I didn't weight the pups but they are very light...the two pumps, plate, and hoses were lighter than the SSBC pump by a hand to hand comparison......lol.....

Maybe you could use one and connect it to both valve covers and then out to a breather can, might help evacuate a little crankcase pressure....
