I'm planning on going to the Woodward Ave cruise and need a hotel recommendation. Three criteria: Under $70/night, near Woodward Ave, better than average chance that my car won't get stolen. I'm thinking of attending the Hot Rod Magazine events that week, so I need a room from 8/15 -8/19/12. Here is a list of possibilites, from Wyndham Rewards web site. Thanks a lot. https://wr.wyndhamrewards.com/hotel...d_code=BH,DI,RA,HJ,KG,MT,SE,TL,WG,WY,PX,WT,BU

I live about a 1/2 an hour from where they hold the annual "woodward ave parking lot". Since I am a truck driver I just cannot see myself driving into a traffic jam on purpose. Also have all your ducks in a row when you travel thru royal oak there was an article in the detroit free press how they are not friendly to the cruisers. try to hook up with a spot to hangout & you should have a great time.

Birmingham is the city you want to stay around. Most those distances on the link page you gave are way off ! Might have to pay a bit more for peace of mind of staying in the right neighborhood. Grew up in that area and family is still there.

Ok I searched for Birmingham and there are several possibilities. Are there any I should avoid? I usually like Baymont, but there are others that appear pretty good too. https://wr.wyndhamrewards.com/hotel...s=1&checkin_date=08/15/2012&radius=25&rooms=1

Looks like an expressway goes from Detroit to Birmingham so I don't have to drive through Royal Oak. Does this make sense? The thought of driving in a traffic jam doesn't appeal to me either. I may park my car and take out the lawn chair!

The Drury Inn Hotel . Great rates ....Best Hotel for night time party fun in the back parking lot !!! Great bunch of people that stay there . if you want to be in bed every night at 9pm, dont stay here . :D Real nice hotel, safe area , with good places to shop/eat all around the hotel (there is also a TGIF attached to hotel), 15 min drive to center of action on Woodward . see link . :D :) we had a such a great time there ..we booked 2 rooms for this year the day we checked out last year .

I just booked a room for 3 nights at Baymont in Romulus, MI. Supposed to be 20 minutes from Woodward Ave. per hotel clerk. Is this a safe place? Price was only $47 plus tax each night if you stay 3 or more nights. Edit: Looks like Romulus is 40 minutes from Birmingham, per mapquest. So will I be 20 minutes away or 40 minutes? I know Woodward is not one little location, but something like a 16 mile stretch. Thanks.

Ok I'll call you....I figured if anybody was really wanting to steal a car they could just go to any hotel that week and find a car much nicer than mine! Edit- I just called you and got your voicmail saying your mailbox is full. Please call me back if you have caller id. Thanks Corey.
