Another question from a Stage 2 newbie.

I couldn't see this opening until I pulled the engine. Does this opening serve a purpose? Should I be in panic? Again its a 153 block. Thanks in advance for any input.

Somebody ran a dry sump oil line through there at one time. I've seen a few that way.
