Not that it pertains to this board, but after 70 years the last classic style VW rolled off the assembly line today in Mexico. The plant is being shut down and #21,529,464 is headed to the museum in Germany...:(

Talk about a long overdue death. Maybe in about 15 years they will open the plant building the new bug huh?

It is the same plant that makes the new Beetle. They were being produced virtually side-by-side.

I don't know, if you had a old style growing up, there is just something about the new style that says "for ladies only" if you know what I mean.

Well, I guess I feel that way about most newer small cars. I've got a friend that has a Mazda sports coupe of some type and I feel really uneasy just thinking about riding in it.

I really don't feel funny at all jumping in my 63 VW and going out creeping up on the Hondas...:D

Really, I thought the column siad they were closing the plant?
My daughter really likes the new models, she has been undecided she has been looking at them and the new Coopers,
blasphemy!!!! Darn Ladies Cars!!!!

Yeah, they were still making them to the other day. A friend of mine brought one back from Mexico about 2 years ago. They are not exactly my cup of tea, but I would take one over a new Beetle any day.

I know I may catch some heat for this, but I actually own 3 of the new beetles.

I actually LOVE that little car. I bought the base models (GL) for the business. I lease them for $250 a month, $0 down. About the same as a Ford Focus or Cavalier might be. For that, I get the following.

1) A well engineered German car that drives and rides like a little tank.
2) good fuel economy, averaging 26 around town so far.
3) 4 year, 50K bumper to bumper warranty.
4) auto trans, A/C, clock, temp, power windows, locks, doors, heated seats, heated mirrors, heated windshield washer nozzles, cruise, keyless entry, remote hatch release, 4 wheel disc, etc, etc.
5) WOMEN love them. So far, I get at least one call a week from some lady that sees our "cute little cars" and calls for en estimate for service.

And, my wife likes them, so she gets to drive one on weekends.

:D

Here is the shots of the white one I sent into the franchise....

Well....I won't bad mouth you.

What the heck, I've owned at least 1 for the past 30 years. I wish my computer wasn't the Fred Flintstone model or I'd send you a pic of my favorite, she was a real terror in her day.

You do have your Chevy & Buick to drive...
