whatever brand of regular oil that GM could get the cheapest by the truckload.

More than likely it had some brand of SF quality oil....that's why the cams lasted more than 1000 miles back then.

about a year ago i removed a small sample of oil from a couple of new (NOS long blocks but never installed in a car) engines-------one was an 86 and one was an 87--------oil was conventional/10w30/and has slightly in excess of 2000PPM of ZDDP............RC
