'86 T-type window switches

How does one remove the driver's side double window switch control trim? Pull it off directly? Use a putty knife on the sides/beneath/on top?

Broke one of the levers, bought new switch pair at Autozone, but afraid going to break the trim piece or tear up the panel board. Doesn't want to give.

The door panel needs to come off to get the wiring loose. If it's never been apart there's a little push nut holding the terminal block to the switch.
