I purchased this block from the original owner last summer.
This block has NEVER been hurt. No sleeves, No cracks, No repairs.
Nothing has been shaved or cut off !!!!!!
I brought the block to a very reputable Buick V-6 builder here in Chicago. He had the block hot tanked and magna-fluxed. He checked and verified everything. I have all the receipts.
The main caps are all matching and fit very tight. It has the ears for the starter.
The bore is 4.020. You can still see all the cross-hatch marks from 15+ years ago.

Here's some history on it.....

I picked this block up from a road race guy (the original owner) about 6 months ago. When I first saw the block, it was on a shelf in a machine shop. The owner of the machine shop said he would put me in touch with the guy and, that the block had been sitting there for over 10 years and it's for sale, but the owner was asking too much money. After talking to the machinist who built his engines, and the owner himself, I found out that this particular block was just a back-up block for him. He bought two blocks straight from BMS. He punched both blocks out to .020 over to run pistons that a race team gave him at a good price. Both engines were broke in and ran a few times. The better (ported) heads were on the the other engine, so this one just sat as a back-up. It ended up that the engine was slowly stripped of parts over the years to put in the engine with the better heads, and some parts were sold to friends of his as he slowly lost interest in the class he was running. All that was left of it when I saw it was the block with main caps, front cover, a bare set of stage II heads and he said he had the oil pan too. He wanted way to much for the heads, so I bought everything but the heads.

I spent a lot of money, but at the time I really wanted the best of the best for my build. However, I haven't had enough work for the last 6-8 months to keep up with all my other new bills, I simply can't afford to build my Turbo T the way I want to, so I will be going back to stock or a budget LS engine.

I also have the stock BMS front cover and a carb intake converted to EFI by MeanMike (very nice).

Hopefully, the original owner will find the oil pan for it. He's a very honest guy, but it was years and years since he has seen his Buick stuff last. I'm going to look through the machine shop where it was stored on Monday. He is going to look in his personal shop this week.

These pictures were taken this week (Wednesday). This is exactly how the engine looks and where it sits right now.

I wiped some WD 40 on the cylinder walls and on the bearing surfaces. You will notice some streaks and smudges of WD 40 here and there.

SS and No Caps are written on the block. It was written by the place that hot tanked the block.

SS stands for Speed Service and no caps means that they received the block without main caps.

Looks like a really nice block. Do you happen to know what the deck height is?

I'm sorry for the huge delay in updating this thread! I gave a good friend of mine a deal for all of my Stage II stuff. He's had over 2 months to come up with the money and hasn't, so I gave him his down-payment back, and I still need to sell this stuff.

Everything in this thread is back up for sale!

I've reduced the prices on everything I'm selling.

Block and Main Caps - $ 3,200 $2,800

EFI Converted Stage II Carb Style Intake - $750 $600

Front Cover - $150 $125

Oil Pan - I've looked at the machine shop for it twice, I've had 2 phone calls with the original owner, and I still can't find it! Consider it gone.

If the block has to be shipped, I will make a sturdy crate out of 3/4" plywood and 2x4's on a pallet, free of charge.

Neal, sorry for the extremely delayed response to your question!!

I do not know the deck height off hand. Honestly, I don't even remember if I had the machinist measure the deck height, or not. I will try calling him this week.

I can take the block back to the machinist if someone is interested enough and I'll post the deck height. Unless someone has an easy DIY way of measuring it?

I took pictures of the intake and front cover about two weeks ago, and sent them to the guys who were interested in them. We were not able to make a deal, so I'm posting the pictures with new prices. All of the info on these parts are listed in my prior posts in this add. I'm really going to take a beating on the intake! Its a buyers market right now, and these parts are priced to sell!!!!
