Thanks BLACK T :D Tore into it & all vac lines are tight & fresh but I replaced the wastegate to solenoid feeder anyway. No more overboost though, something let go in the ignition & the car won't fire. [I,B]NO FIRE - NO BOOST - NO PROBLEM[/I,/B] See From ??? to Fed up ;^|

Well, I swapped the crank sensor & found the one in the car shredded. Didn't fix the problem though. The stocker that was originally on the motor has an aluminum shroud riveted to the hall effect sender - the one I removed doesn't have the shroud, just the plastic sender that slides in the...

No, no.......again, I didn't clarify. The failed one was the replacement. I have a spare that was assumed toasted but I plan on swapping it in tonight & verifying. Ign. module is original, 19 year old, 100+K miles, & untested. I'll look at it too.

JUST swapped crank sensor - with an unknown (used) one. I should learn from my mistakes, but..... :o

Didn't notice the SES but I was in traffic & flustered having the damn devil himself show his ugly face to me yet once again. If I could only enjoy an entire week with the hood closed & motoring I'd be rejuvenated for another 4 years!! I'll check the ALDL next time I feel like working on it &...

F/P is brand new Walbro 340 hotwired and maintaining pressure, I checked again after cranking. This felt like an electrical failure. Car was runing great at just above idle - I was moving at about 5 mph in traffic - then died & wouldn't restart. I haven't had time yet to check for spark but...

For a history, see the  string. BTW - thanks to all that provided input!! Started to get the car lined out, F/P @ 41PSI, cam sensor right, retimed, all appearing OK except for continual overboosting at 1/4 throttle or more. Checked all vac lines & replaced between sender &...

Got the F/P gauge. It pegged- 100 + #- at the rail. Guess that's a little rich. I dropped it to ~40 PSI. The motor fired right up, idled nice, & revved clean. First pass after warming it up & the boost gauge hit red again. It was previously blowing the wastegate sender vac lines off - they're...

My injectors were new when installed a year or so ago & haven't been removed since. I've driven the car about 1K miles since - but my point is, they've never had cleaner of any type through them. Guess I should pull at least 1 & flow it to see how crudded up it is. Should theoretically push 30PPH.

Well.....the coil's wired right but as I'm pulling the right side of everything apart to swap the DP I took the O2 out & got smacked by an exhaust full of raw gas. Think it's a wee bit rich?!? Enough to melt/eat the lead off the fresh donut at the turbo. Guess I'd better toss in the new plugs...

GREAT INFO!!!! I'll switch them when I get home. It started snowing here in KC today so it's my cue to get the beast back on the road. :D

I pulled the ign module & checked all grounds internal & external. All nuts are in place & tight. On the wiring tieing the coil pack to the ign module, #1 wire is light blue, #3 - green, #5 - yellow/black, and 2,4,6 are dark blue (grounds?). Are these the correct positions? Also, where is...

I pulled #1. It's new & gapped @ .040. Don't think it was ever fired on these plugs. The mechanic that had the car also had 2 87's in his shop - poor suckers that own 'em. He swapped in the late model ignition then removed it. Guess I didn't spell that out too well. So I'm off to clean up...

It ran GREAT through the gears & fired up just by twisting the key before I took the car to someone else. I verified the cam sensor - it's in right. Don't think the timing chain's an issue (& really don't want to crack the timing cover again yet) - it's steel double roller instead of the stock...

I've done some more testing. There's spark at all 6 cyl's, verified timing & reset the cam sensor. Had the car running (real rough) for a couple minutes but it currently won't fire. Smells rich. Still not sure if the adj regulator was ever adjusted or what it's set to now - I need a F/P...

I posted a thread last April & got some great advice - but it hasn't resolved my problems...yet. Here's my set-up & issues that I'm hoping some of you world class mechanics can diagnose: 84 GN with recent rebuild on all motor internals 10/10 stock crank .030 cylinder bore...

    Hydroboost or Vacuum

Yea...thanks. I got mine done too but the brakes are weak. I think the booster's hosed. Found both hydro & vac boosters rebuilt within $10 of each other at one of the parts houses here and will certainly stick with the vac after all the hassle with the pedal. I was real lucky when the hydro...

    Seen it all now

Bought my 1 owner 84 GN from my brother who swore nobody had ever worked on/hacked it only to find the x-over pipe had been cut in half & reassembled with a Campbell's can & a couple crusher U bolts and 1 of the rear slave cyls had an easyout crammed into it & broken off. My take is buy it new...

    Hydroboost or Vacuum

I didn't catch what Reds was telling me until it was too late. Make SURE that you swap the pedal BEFORE installing the new booster. The pedal hangar is held up with the 4 booster bolts + 1 13 mm straight up under the dash. Drop the hangar then it's easy to get to the 16 mm bolt & 18 mm nut that...

    how many hotairs ?

'84 GN 1 family owned. My brother bought it new. It had ~200 mi on the clock first time I drove it & would keep up with my 454 '68 RS Camaro! Had to have it so I bought it trashed & have been playing with it for about 5 years now. Fresh stock block .010/.010 crank, .020 over pistons, Postons...
