I would check the endplay in the crank to make sure its not serious. Pry the crank forward and back. If you can see it move thrust bearing may be worn. Mine would set off the knock detector but ran 13.1.

Is this the right converter or is this the source of my thrust failure?? Please help me figure this out so I don't take out another short block. Thanks all.........

Thanks for the link! It sounds like I have to put it all back together to check the line pressure. If the front pump needs work then I have to take it all out again. What can I check now that its apart so I only have to do this once? Thanks..........

Does a converter balloon and then shrink back? Or does it stay ballooned? I was assuming it would stay enlarged and I could see or measure it. Mine looks fine. Any other way to verify?? Thanks all............

My thrust bearing failed after 3500mi on rebuild! I assume the transmission or converter is probably to blame. The motor is out of the car. How can I figure out what the problem is? I can't see anything obvious on the flyweel or converter. The converter is an AC 9" nl. There was at least 3/16...

My guess is that the shift linkage on the firewall is hitting the exaust manifold or something when in park. Shift it into to gear and it moves out of the way. check it out...........

Before I put the PP on I measured the temperature of each cylinder on the exhaust manifold with a portable pyrometer. At idle, there was more than 100deg difference between the cylinders. 5 was the hottest. After the PP there was only a 10 deg difference. I guess exhaust temperature at idle may...
