With any alternator upgrade, increase the wire size to the battery by one or two gauges (smaller # = bigger wire) otherwise you can overheat the original wire and the old wire will have a higher voltage drop with the higher amperage alternator. If you have upgraded your alternator and want to know, connect a voltmeter to the + side of the battery and alternator output stud and read the drop.
Do this test with the battery discharged by running the headlites till the battery voltage is at say 11 or so volts, and leave them on, so that the alternator is working to charge it.
If the battery isn't discharged, there won't be much amps from the alternator no matter what size the alternator is.
