Turbo Bugeye is calling it quits

I am reverting back to a NA engine after years of dealing with major leaks in the rear main seal of the 3.8 Buick. The complete turbo set-up is for sale on ebay. Wasn't sure what it is worth. I listed it for $650 . Any thoughts? Thanks for all the help from this forum. The turbo did kick...

    Where's the timing mark

I put a new crankshaft in an turbo 81 engine. I am reassembling and tried to line up the timing marks on the cam and crankshaft timing chain gears. There is a distinct mark on the cam gear. I can't find a corresponding mark on the crank gear. What am I missing? Also, did all V6 engines...

Freddie's Rear Main Seal Thread Revisited

Thanks for all the help. I do remember one set of instructions saying to wet wire the sealant, but I had no idea what that meant. Now I know!!! I looked at the knurling and cleaned that area with a solvent the first time around. It looked pretty good. I'll double check when I redo it this...

Freddie's Rear Main Seal Thread Revisited

It was cold in the shop. Pot bellied stove while I was working on it, but freeze a-- cold after. I'll give it another shot today with heat. Any thoughts on the break-in period?

Freddie's Rear Main Seal Thread Revisited

My 59 Turbobugeye project has hit a speedbump. The engine is running great and the torque/speed is awesome (actually a little frightening). I'm on my third attempt to stop a persistent rear main seal oil leak in the recently rebuilt 83 turbo engine. My first attempt was made using...

    The Buick Turbobugeye Runs

Hey, Thanks for the help.....AGAIN!! I don't know what I would do without the help I get from you all. I'll be back as soon as I get the new seal in and fire it up again. I will likely need some help tuning it in. Can I post videos?

    The Buick Turbobugeye Runs

OK I'll mull the filter over a bit. If I use one, I'll stick the Oil pressure sender after the filter. That should signal a clog, right? Here is the rear seal set I plan to buy. This is my first stab at a link. Let me know if it works or not.1986 BUICK REGAL T-TYPE Crankshaft Seal Also...

    The Buick Turbobugeye Runs

Ok, I'm going to bend some pipe this week. So, this turbo saver you mentioned.....I'm guessing its some kind of mini-oil filter that gets installed in line between the pump and the turbo, right? Where can I get it? I checked eBay and a couple of parts sites with no luck. I found cheap...

    The Buick Turbobugeye Runs

Based on Charie's recommendation I finally fired up the 83 Buick Turbo engine sitting in a 59 Bugeye Sprite without the turbo hooked up. It ran great until the rubber hose from the oil pump to the turbo blew off. I reatteched it and tightened it down snug and its OK so far. That brings up the...

I am working on your substitute PEVR setup. Thanks for creating a great alternative. Would like your expert input on the proper way to wire 1979 vintage ESC to my V6 Buick turbo, using an after-market ignition system harness, not a stock Buick harness. Knock sensor and distributor wiring is...

    Wiring a 79 ESC without a harness

I'm ready to hook up the 1979 vintage ESC to my V6 turbopowered 59 Bugeye Sprite. This is going to an after-market ignition system harness, not a stock Buick harness. The connection to the distributor is a no brainer since the ESC has the connector plug to fit up to the input plug on the...

83 Turbo in Bugeye Sprite - Questions

Yep. The original engine was a 948 cc (58 ci) and it pumped out about 48 hp and 52 Ft Lb of torque. The curb weight was about 1500 lbs. The car I got was already cut up for dirt track racing Not sure what it had in the engine compartment. It started out with unibody-like construction but...
