My bad, RPO codes were actually GU5 and G80, making it a 3.23.

The 3.42 number came from the RPO codes I checked when I bought the car. Maybe I misread it, I'll double check it tonight. If its 3.23's I'll probably want to change that as well.

I've had great luck with my Shadow. Have you added any mods to it yet? These bikes are pretty easy and cheap to customize...if haven't done it already, the rear sprocket change is one of the best mods for these bikes.

I have an 02 Spirit as well...agree with cleaning the carb comment. Might want to change the plugs as well. Mine was rejetted for some pipes, after about 12k miles the plugs were due to replace.
