The valves protect the solenoids from boost pressure, so it could potentially blow them out in which case the canister solenoid and EGR solenoid would no longer work properly. If the EGR solenoid blew, you'd likely get a code and a rough idle. The canister won't throw a code but could mess with...

Get the code first. That may point you in the right direction. Otherwise, biggest culprits are leaks: vacuum or exhaust. Also sensors, o2 and MAF.

My brother's 91 Chevy Lumina no longer shifts from 2-3 but shifts fine from 1-2. It will shift 2-3 if you do it manually with the column shifter. The fluid is clean and there are no other problems. Any ideas?
