Argument with some moron about my buick T vs. GN

Try owning a WE4 everyone thinks it's a GN with the spoiler ripped off and it's really a genuine Turbo T.

Nowadays I just say it's a GN at the gas station it's a lot easier than attempting an explanation. :p

My first one was a GN and i love driving it.But for me a car that you never see is so much more appealing.I love the cornering lamp cars, limiteds, and my latest is a cream beige T with blackout trim. Most would think its ugly for me ugly is in the rare ones will be the ones sought after as they get older

I'm one step below that..... black 87 T (not even a WE4!) with black trim....

I just call it a Buick, but if somebody calls it a GN I just go along with it. Not worth it trying to explain!

One time a kid at a cruise night said it was a fake GN. LOL.... I said "hey Buick made it that way, not me!"

This is funny, just today I was driving my car around doing some errands and a older fella pulls just past my car at a light then puts it in reverse and asks "What year is it?" I reply "it's a 86" He then said "I didn't think they made them in white, did you paint it?" I just quickly said "YEP" and drove off as the light turned green.....

Dont understand why MOST people like Grand National over T-type's and Turbo T's the Ttypes and t's have some rare and unique options awesome color's and interiors! and some lighter than GN's therefore making them just a tad bit faster from stock...i had 1 GN and honestly i like my BLUE 87 a little more than my old GN.... I do like GN's dont get me wrong!! but i guess different strokes for different folks right?? point being my blue T got bashed the other day because people don't understand T's especially the idiot driving the vette that we almost got into a physical altercation for talking crap about my Buick.. if it isnt a Grand National its not worth chit he said?? WTF? he think T's are worth penny's becuz its not a GN... chit pisses me off... has anyone gone threw a similiar situation? and seriously whoever thinks there GN is better than a T need to get your head out of your ass.. i have ran into some GN guy's that look down on T's like we who have t's aren't as good? VENTING A LITTLE SORRY
Let them talk. They all learn in the end... Case in point, I went to a huge cruise in in SoCal. Drove my Grey ttype... While looking for parking I heard some lady ask her husband why anyone would bring an old regal to a car show. Did I get mad? Nope. No worries. Those that know, know...

Fast forward to later that evening. Heading home. Notice a bright orange mopar with mean looking hood. Can't really identify. Looks like grandpa in the pass seat and grandson driving. Pulls up next to me and blips the throttle. It sounded mean. Apparently they were going to break him in on a weak old "monte".. Surprise for him.

Light turned green and I waxed him like the karate kid. It was ugly. I was actually embarrassed for him... Got to the next light and his hood never get to my door as we waited for the next light. Once bitten twice shy... Maybe he'll pick on a honda next time...
that was one the things I hated about owning my T is that no one knew WTF a T was and I got tired of trying to explain the difference or even what to refer it as. cause 99% of the car world has no earthly clue what a Turbo T is. my next TR will be a GN. love the T's but there is just something appealing about saying u own a GN imo. ive had both.
most guys that havent owned a turbobuick dont have a clue! so lets not let the cat out of the bag. just keep humbling there azzes one at a time!
Ironic about tHis post....i just had a convo today while gassing up with a guy coming out who as he was walking up to the cat was saying something about it looking like something special them stopped himself as he read the hood emblem....he was pretty cool though and seemed to really appreciate the car once I told him the t's are 3 times as rare as a gn.....most ppl really just were never educated about these cars....but then again were talking about ppl who think any small block with a double pumper is badass
Haha... well you just need to play it up like it was the old days...

It's just a Buick. With a little V6. Wanna race?
hello; I call em Turbo Buicks and the next thing that would be said you mean a GN and I say no. Then there confused and I like it. The public can't know everything about a TB. Just give em a lesson and talk about how there the same but better.

Which will be worth in 50 years is what people always ask me. I was talking to my Dad about this while we were watching Barret Jackson a couple years back when a ugly green Hemi charger came across and sold for 400,000.
I thought he was going to have a heartattack. He said he couldnt give those things away when he was selling cars back then he said everyone wanted black or blue. They said there was only 15 with that color. Sound familar.
When people come up to me and ask why I have a limited. Its differant and thats what I want. Thats what I say.
Dont get me wrong the sinister look of a gn is awesome
Plus my insurance was cheaper when I got it. $2600 a year on the gn and $800 on the limited:eek: That was the first argument I had about my car was with the agent. He told me I wanted the fast one. I just kept my mouth closed:biggrin:
I love them all But there is nothing better than getting your azz handed to you by grandpas car:biggrin:
wow i was a little pissed earlier i cooled off already at least i know some of you understand my frustration it get's annoying though over all i love these old buicks GN or T i feel that the T's dont get the respect they should from the public though...
i'm almost ashamed to own the same kind of car as the OP.. if you are gonna get to the point of wanting to throw punches because someone else (a Vette owner at that!!) says bad things about your car, then i don't want to be associated with you.
the argument got fiesty when he told me my car wasnt a GN so it wasn't worth chit. im not going to sit there and say who's wrong or right he shouldn't have said that. he thought he was a hot shot listen im 24 yrs old yea my testoserone is a bit high but ive lived on my own and worked since i was 15 for everything ive got. so for him to talk to me like im a old tire because his daddy bought him a vette and because he doesn't have to bust his ass like i do doesnt mean he can go talk to me in a different tone if his dad didn't give him an ass whoppin i WILL a night in the slammer doesn't bother me tv court and be on my way in the am. Treat other's how YOU want to be treated . and in MIAMI ppl are rude and POS so maybe in your side of town people are nicer about things. by the way i love vette's it just so happens thats what he had? im a gm guy cmon i drive a buick im not bashing vette's at all..
Stop sweating in the end they are all regals
Just be thankful you don't own an '86 GN...everyone knows those suck :)

j/k

But seriously, once he got to the point where he was talking crap you should have just said to line 'em up and let's see where it goes. My father is somewhat the same way...he'd like to have a GN. I've found a few Turbo T and T-Types but he said he doesn't want one because it's not a GN. He even stumbled across a WE4 at a decent price in SoCal and passed because it wasn't a "GN".
Did you race him? You should have, and told him he has nothing to lose.

What year Corvette did he have anyways?
If it helps, I've got an 82 GN and some of the members on the board don't consider it a GN. I had one guy tell me he's owned every year GN that they made. I asked him to show me pics of the 82 he had and he didn't consider them a GN because they didn't come with a turbo. Well guess what, they did!
I know what you are saying. Have had a couple GN owners say that my car is not a "real" turbo buick because it is white. WTF. I think it is funny because they don't have a clue that the T's are rarer then a GN.

Chris
Don"t feel bad most corvettes don"t like my T either, well they don"t like the rear anyways:p

Kevin
You have to keep in mind that the vast majority of people don't really know much about cars. When I was at PINKS with my car, there was a small crowd of people around my car with the hood open. One of the guys asked me if I still had the V6 in it....

Peter
Ah take it to the next level... if it aint a GNX.... it's junk! ;)
Some of us prefer not to take verbal abuse or insults from big mouths.
It is our prerogative.

You should also be ashamed for making such a moronic statement. You weren't even directly insulted by this situation and you're throwing punches because someone said bad things about someone else.
The epitome of ignorance.

OH MY GOD!!! I have never seen so much whining about not have a REAL GN before in my life. Just deal with it guys. If you must lie to yourselves to feel better about your Ts or Types or WTF ever you call them then do so but have some dignity and do it via PM. Good grief.

The public is the reason why the T's are rarer than the GN's...they bought more GN's!

Geez dude, don't let someone's ignorance get you upset and possibly to jail.

Only one way to shut his azz up and that is to line 'em up.

BTW, my car was a rare '86 T. ;)

Isn't this the lounge area? pull up a chair!

Interesting thread.....

I have a little background having owned a bunch of both GNs and Ts over the years....

Their is no question that GNs and black Turbo Regals, and GNXs get the instant respect...whereas the various color ones whether they have the chrome package or black out package for the most part are overlooked.....but has been pointed out earlier in years to come these cars may garner more value....I rmember when Corvette people hated the 1958 Corvettes cause of the chrome ribs on the trunk lid....guess what....few years back that changed....for years the 1958 chevys where dirt cheap.....guess what few years back that changed and 58 Chevys now fetch good money.

Having a non black Turbo Regal has many many advantages....element of surprise from any traffic lite....and and this is a big one....a black car no matter how religious you are are keeping it clean shows dust seconds later, shows any door ding, and this is the killer one is the one car thieves seek.

Again I am not knocking GNs....being in the business they do fetch the bigger money....but for one to keep I perfer the non flashy model....

So, no matter which you own...enjoy it....appreciate the thumbs up you get from those that recognize you have a potent car and those that have a non descript colro Turbo regal....appreciate the fact....it isn't black.....chances are your factory paint looks better anyhow!

personally, i couldn't really care less about what anyone thinks about my car.. i only bought it because it was dirt cheap, and have grown to like it for what it is.. but i do kind of care if people are going to lump me in with immature and impulsive people like the guy that started this thread. i just can't understand why anyone would get so worked up over what some other idiot has to say about their car. i mean, wanting to throw punches because someone says that they don't think your car is cool? are we all stuck in 2nd grade, when having the coolest Trapper Keeper was the most important thing in the word?

When I had my Black T-Type, I got tired of telling people that it's not a Grand National. After a while I just started calling it a Grand National, since I owned 2 of those as well.

I'd bet if they had given the t's a cool name, like the "GRAND NATIONAL" had, instead of t-type :frown:, it would have became more popular from day 1 + be more popular today.
If from day 1 it was called the Buick Talladega,or some other livelier name then "t" i believe it would have lost the grandpa image right away,Also chrome wheels from the factory would have done wonders for the "TALLADEGA'S" image from the start, those dull turbine wheels detracted from the car from the get go.
I can settle for the wheels now because they are the original wheels + are classic's now but a better wheel option would have really been good for these cars image, then + now.
I will say this about the t's, I've bought 5 Turbo Regals in the last yr or so + not one of them has been black.I love the look of the gn's but i hate the black paint itself, with all it's problems, So i just choose to buy the same car without the black paint issues,if the right one at the right price came along i would buy it but when i am looking for my next tr i'm always looking for the next colored one.
I personally love the color choices + diff combo's of the t's
I recently had a
Dark blue 87 t with blackout, moonroof +blue interior
Grey t with Chrome package, moonroof +maroon interior
White t with blackout, T-Tops +blue interior
Grey Limited with Blackout + grey leather interior
+ my favorite, Beige Cream with Chrome Package + Tan interior, that i would even consider trading for a gn in the same condition.

Having said that, The Gn's definetly more well known to the general public that really arn't that familiar with the cars,There was so many more built, so people have seen lots more of them over the years, and they standout with the all blackpaint scheme, shiny chrome wheels, catchy name that everyone remembers.
I can't tell you how many people have said to me i didn't even know they made them in different colors,It happened to me tonight when someone came to look at my mustang,He knew what a gnx + a gn was but couldn't believe it when i opened the door + he saw my t.

I think every WE4 owner suffers through those. I gave up on trying to explain WE4 to anyone that doesnt know about these cars. Some that are familiar with Gns and T's see my car and say, "WTF do you mean thats not a GN?"

Unless your Running 9.70 or faster on your GN, my 87 turbo T will put a hurting on your black tar pit GN. :)

I didn't want a GN...few people know what a GN is nowadays..even less know what a T or a T-type is....to me..that is a good thing. When they tell you that your car is chit just laugh and know the truth.

I have a t-type so I wouldn't know but do GN owners get pissed off when people call their cars Monte's?

Either way, whether it be a GN, T-Type, T, Regal, or Regal Limited we own the cars because of how they look. Atleast I know thats why I own mine. They have some of the best lines and style of any car out there. The power the turbo engine makes is a bonus. Should we austrasize non-turbo Regal owners? When someone asks me about my car I tell the it's a Buick Regal T-Type, and if they don't understand I explain. If they don't care to know it doesn't bother me. I love the car, that doesn't mean they need to love it too. Besides mine is an 84 T-type with the 87 setup. That takes twice as long to explain the difference not only between that and the GN but the fact that it didn't have the same engine but it does now even tho it had a turbo engine to start with.

hello; Maybe the next time someone asks (what ever) about my car I'm going to tell them it's a T-National and say it's one of the rarest TB out there and see what happens. I know I couldn't keep the lie for to long so I'd educate them.
There all TB.

I am the proud owner of an 85 Grand National! I want a T so I don't attract so much attention. To the OP, pleas explain to the car thieves that your car is very rare and most likely faster that the GN they were planning on stealing. After you do that can you explain to law enforcement that they should watch the T cars for speeding. The GN is willing to step out of that lime light also. And last but not least. Can you get some one to lower the price on the trim parts that are just black and not chrome like the fancy Limiteds and chrome package cars? That drives me nuts. I'm sure you never thought about it that way.
