Its 50 in Detroit and the foot of snow on the ground is melting quickly. Never owned a black car before and wondered what the best polish/wax is for the Grand Nationals. Car was restored in the fall so just looking for the best shine this spring. Thanks

i like the Eagle One Wax as you dry, but i don't use it when the car is wet. really quick to use. spray on and wipe off with a micro fiber

Best shine? Zymol. http://www.zymol.com/index.aspx
It's in auto parts stores and Walmart. A little pricey, but has a great shine. Super easy on-off. No need to let dry. Wet and dry car after applying to cure the Zymol. I found Zymol thru Consumer Reports. Top notch shine on a car that is prepped well. But... I noticed that it won't last if washing car often.

Long lasting nice shine? NuFinish. In an orange bottle. Auto parts stores and Walmart, etc. Almost 1/2 the price as Zymol. Very close to Zymol shine-wise,but it lasts.

My Zymol is used up. Replaced by NuFinish.

Stuff I bought and found to be useless, and spends eternity on the car cleaning shelf in my garage:

Turtle Wax.
Meguires.
Some gel cr*p made by Eagle.

If you want a wax that last for a long time and shines great, easy on and off. Then use Meguiar's Gold Class paste wax. Paste wax last much longer than liquid wax's. THE STUFF IS SIMPLY AWSOME, WAX THE WHOLE CAR, LET IT SET FOR A FEW MINIUTES, THEN BUFF IT OFF. Not your do a 2X2 section, wait to dry, then buff off stuff. This stuff takes a while to cure. But it works great.

I've owned my car for 24 years and tried just about every wax made and I've found that JaxWax is absolutely the easiest to use and give the best results. My 24 year old paint still shines better than new! Paul

I've thought about trying Jax wax........

Zaino is alot of work but the results are great.

^This!!!!

Poorboys polishes are AWESOME!! I mostly use their "Black Hole" Glaze after I polish. Love that stuff and really deepens and warms up the black. Their trim restorer and their tire shine is incredible too!
When I wax (rarely) I use S100 Carnuba (I don't have a link off hand for that stuff)

The nice thing about JaxWax is it can be applied when the car is hot or even in the direct sunlight. Microfiber cloth takes it off very easy. The buicks dont get waxed that way but the Daily drivers do

Opinions vary, but I have been a member of the ISCA for years and #1 wax, by far,has always been 3M Imperial Hand Glaze( TAN ). Imperial Machine Glaze ( PINK )works great too, but on a black...non clearcoated car, you wont beat either. Apply it with a damp, fleece cloth in circles and remove with old school, real cotton baby diapers, in straight back-n-forth motion. Do not ever wipe off wax in circles...you take it right out of the swirls you put it in to cover. Wont see a swirl mark ever after 3-4 coatings. Its a lost art...waxing an uncleared car. My Max Wedge car is original paint and my GN is also.

If your car is basecoat/clearcoat...it doesnt matter which one you pick. Its a matter of ease in getting off. Clearcoat is cheating...;)

As posts indicate its like asking what is the best oil to use...

Few years back not sure what publication it was but they tested various waxes and Zaino came out on top. As others stated takes alittle work but heck its something you would enjoy since its your car.

The big thing today, is using a clay bar first to get the containments out of the paint that makes a huge difference prior to whatever product you go with.

Also depends on how nice the paint is to start with. I have seen the before and after results with Zaino on one of the cars I sold years ago a month after I sold it. Car was zainoed and the results fooled me I really thought it was a different.

A zaino car in black even stands out against others as I have been able to pick them out at GS Nats. I don' t sell any waxes so I have nothing to gain either way. But as others know I have owned a number of black turbo cars.

Zaino hands down. I was introduced to it by a buddy thatused it on his STI and I tried it on the GN and it looks great but as said before it requires a lot of work but it is worth it. As also stated a clay bar prior to the wax will help a lot. Run a dry hand over the paint before using a clay bar and then do it again after and you will be surprised at the smoothness.

I always liked Zaino and found it pretty easy to use. Then again I enjoy spending a day detailing my cars. :D

waxing time....

i use only Mothers wax pure carnauba-step 3-or(clay bar's good too),or maguiar's nxt and sometimes 3M, keep your old socks they come in handy for buffing!tape your emblems that way you have no wax in all the cracks!let it shine!

WOW! And its Zaino by popularity. I have always been a Meguiars guys on the vettes I owned. I did not like how it worked on my Iroc and was searching for something new and tried many. The Meguiars NX?? purple bottle seamed to smear. My GN is restored to clearcoat, so I am cheating a bit. Thanks for all the feedback, like Dennis said it was like asking about oil :)

I'd agree with Zaino. If you've got the time and energy, it is definitely the way to go. Follow the directions to the letter. I start the spring with a few coats of it and then wear Oakleys to enjoy the results of my labor. :) I do use the Meguiars NX wax on my Cobra and it is pretty good stuff too. I am much more particular about the TR.

I was a Zaino fanatic until we discovered Jax Wax at the BPG a couple years ago. Zaino is great, but Jax Wax is so fast and easy to use you can do your car in minutes getting "Zaino" results. My WE4 has 24 year old paint and has been down the track over 600 times and still looks great.... with only 10 minutes of work. Jax Wax is SICK!

I now use my remaining Zaino... even the $18 a bottle detailer... on my wife's daily driver because the Jax Wax has spoiled me and I don't want to waste it on our daily drivers. We use the "Hawaiian" spray wax/detailer over a lightly misted wet car and it's crazy how nice the results are.
