What External Wastegate do I run???

Well, it's time to buy an external wastegate and i need some advice on which one to buy. I'm running a 250 c.i. Stage 2, ported Champions, 70BB turbo, true TA headers, 3.5" DP, FAST XFI, E85, 120 or 160 lb injectors (not sure which yet). I plan on running an average of 26 lbs of boost and would like to be able to bump it up to close to 30 if I can at the track. The car is mainly a street car though. I need to build the DP still and plan to gate it off the header and into the DP. Which one do I buy? Thanks for the advice guys! -----Jeremy

Tial model V44. It has a 44mm valve. You want to get it with double springs to give you a base level of 15.9psi. That would be the large blue and small yellow springs.

This setup will give you a low side boost level of 15-16psi, and a high side of 34-36psi when maxed out.
Anything smaller and you will have very little control over your low side boost level.

Make sure to get it with the valve that is compatible with leaded race gas.

Go with the 160 lbs/hr injectors with the E85. You will have no problem getting a small enough pw for idle.

OK thanks for that info! Is this valve necessary for running E85?

I believe the V44 comes with the lead safe valve, as well as only one type of valve, so really, you have no choice.
It's the 38mm wastegate that you can get either valve with. A V44 from any Tial Sport dealer and you're good to go, just make sure to get those springs.

OK thank you for the information! I am honestly dumb when it comes to these external gates. This is my first time! What is the difference in the different mm gates? I know they are bigger or smaller but how does the 38, 44, 50mm set ups match certain set up? Does the HP or boost determine what mm gate to gate?

I believe the PW Don was talking about is Pulse Width?

For what it's worth, I thought I read that all Tial gates have the leaded valve now.

Jer. ,DonWG is talking about the Pulse width for the injectors. Yes go with the 160's on your S2motor. I'm at 78% DC on my 120's and Tom is almost at the 100% mark already on E85.

Exactly what I was thinking. You'd be running out of DC if you ever started pushing the envelope.

Ok great! Now another question I have for you is this, Can I un these 160's for a while with just my Walboro pump and stock fuel lines? I really dont have the money to get the fuel system right now and I want to be able to run the car. Not racing it and I could care less about putting too much boost into it. I just want it to run so i can take it to notch the frame and maybe a few cruise ins.

What do you think about these injectors?
eBay Motors: BOSCH 160LB 1600CC FUEL INJECTORS METHANOL FUEL IS OK (item 130232076176 end time Sep-16-08 16:19:15 PDT)

Where else can someone buy 160lb injectors?

Those are the injectors I am using. 7 years now. If all you want is for it to run and cruise, your fuel system's capacity will do fine. Don't know about the compatibility to the fuel.

Yeah for now I am running a little low on funds so i just want to be able to cruise it a little and be able to take it to the chassis shop to get the frame notched. I have an XFI so I should be able to adjust as I upgrade. The WEldon 2035 are around $800 and I just dont have the fundage right now as I am laid off. As long as they will cruise, I'm good to go!

This is true but there may still be some 38mm gates in stock at some of the distributors that have the unleaded-only (black) valve. When I recently placed my order for an F38 wastegate, I had the guy at Forced Performance open the box to make sure it had the race (silver) valve.

you cant go wrong with the 160's and a tial gate. tial makes some really nice parts. i have never had a problem with my tial 38mm

The Tial V44 is an awesome piece, I had my TA headers modified for the waste gate. A hole was cut just before the 3-bolt flange and a 45* Stainless tube was welded to the Tial V-band fitting. The exhaust is directed back into the 3.5" DP about 16-18" down.

That is the exact set up I'm looking for. What down pipe are you using? I see you still retian the AC and thats my plan as well. Looks good, I'd like to hear a little more info! Thanks! ----Jeremy

The 3.5" DP is a china knock off piece which fits like a glove, I used a Rjc internal WG block off plate between the DP and turbo. Boost control is going to be controlled with an AMS500. I am using the spring pressure in the Wastegate to control boost for now. Patricks advice with running a large and a small spring for minimum boost is good advice. I currently run the big blue spring @ approx. 12lbs boost and notice/hear some wastegate flutter from 7-12psi. The additional spring should help it down low. Once the AMS is installed it will hold the gate shut until the preset level if the boost setting is above the internal spring pressure.

Ok excellent. Where did you buy that DP? I'll buy the same one and the plate otherwise just weld the hole shut and have it milled down. I have a Greddy Profec B Spec 2 boost controller. Will this be usefull? And if so, what springs would you advise me to use with this controller?
