turbo efficiency

what happens when you pass the efficiency peak of a given turbo? how do you know when a given turbo is maxed out, and a larger one is required?

Once you pass the efficiency range, the pressure ratio of exhaust to intake is pretty high and also the turbocharger starts to heat the air and sort of just churn it up instead of smoothly compressing it as the rpm's just get ridiculous. There are a bunch of websites that describe it, but a better bet is corky bell's book, maximum boost.

A friend bought it and brought it into work and I went over it, it'll teach you how to read compressor maps and choose turbos. Good luck. HTH.

edit- found this, which should also be very helpful.
