would a 86-87 wastegate work on a 83.

I had my turbo for my 83 rebuilt about a two years ago the guy who rebuilt it said my waste gate was no good that it was going of at 4 or 5 psi that’s what my gauge reads as well and that the diaphragm inside was cracked or dry rotted. I was wondering if i could use a86-87 waste gate on it or is their some place i could get it from. another thing what should the boost be for an 83.

No it's to short and doesn't bolt up.

You can use a 84/85, but have to mod it to bolt up

When they go bad, they stop opening the wastegate altogether and motor will overboost. Try shortening the rod and see if boost goes up.

4-5 psi of boost sounds more like your secondaries aren't opening.

ill have to try that but how much boost should a 83 have.
