AIRC, if the chip failed, it would put the system into limp mode...
You might want to have the batt load tested.

I had the battery load tested a week or so ago. I was in picking up a battery for my 56 Pickup and had the car so I had them check it just because. Is there any way to find out if the car is in limp mode? It makes total sense. Also could shorting the system out have done that and the chip is still good? if so how would you return the system to normal? I have unplugged the ECM since this happened to get the info off the chip for the photos I posted and it is still running the same.

If someone made timing/fueling changes on the chip they are gone now. Those chips loose memory when the power is lost to the ecm. So the car probably has retarded timig compared to before.
