Guys, I would like some opinions on what to do about my tired posi over the winter. With almost 110K on what Im assuming is the original, Im thinking its time for a replacement. I serviced it recently and the clutches are starting to turn blue from overheating. And its also starting to do the "one wheel drive" as Doc Paulie puts it at the track.
Im leaning towards replacing it with a good aftermarket unit. I really cant spend the $500 on an Eaton, but I do like this one.
Detroit Locker 913A481 Detroit Truetrac Differentials
Its a Eaton brand and supposed to be maintenence free. Apparently the 28 and 30-spline units are the same price, and will fit the 8.5" with special bearings.
For axles, I was thinking about going with Superiors. Has anyone ever used them and do they make them in 30 spline? I hear they are just as good as Mosers and maybe a little cheaper.
What do you guys think? I'll probably do a stud kit for the carrier and NHRA-legal wheel studs as well.
