Street race ends in fatal crash

Man's death is city's third racing death of year

ONTARIO - A street race turned deadly Monday when a 22-year-old Rancho Cucamonga man lost control of his car and slammed into a pole, causing his vehicle to rip in half...

The other racer fled the scene in a dark-colored Honda, police said...

A woman who was stopped at Creekside Drive and Haven Avenue about 1:30 p.m. told police each were driving around 80 mph south on Haven when one of the drivers lost control...

"It sounded like a bomb going off," said 22-year-old Paul Valenzuela, who was inside his home at the time of the accident. "It was like, "Boom, boom, boom!"'

"That's stupid they're doing it on the street," he said. "There's kids out here and he could have hit a kid..

That's pretty sad and I sure wish there were more drags strips around to prevent this type of thing:(

Dallas Fort Worth Loses a Ricer (or innocent bystander hit by a Ricer) to street racing at least once a week if not more often.

90% of the time, the cars "racing" are not what ANYONE BUT a Ricer would consider "fast".

Man that's nutz! Authorties need to start putting the smack down on these nuckle heads, and the ones that are caught, need to be made an example of.

oh the cops, do, but that doesn't stop them. The latest fatalities were running from the police when they hit another crap box, killing 2.

That's why we all drive around in Navigators, Yukon XL's and excursions. The Ricers bounce right off.

Oh yeah and we have 5 drag strips within an hours drive. Doesn't stop them. I guess it keeps the REALLY fast cars off the street.

Calif and/or many CA towns do have stiff laws against street racing, eg seizure (and auctioning off?) the vehicle, jail time, etc. In some CA towns simply being a spectator is sufficient to get arrested and prosecuted as a misdemeanor.

Still they persist...

One of the cars wasn't a ricer, 85 Mustang. Look at the photo gallery of the crash. Sort of eerie in one pic with that church sign. Guess he didn't have too far to go to meet his maker.:(

The article also says:

"It sounded like a bomb going off," said 22-year-old Paul Valenzuela, who was inside his home at the time of the accident. "It was like, "Boom, boom, boom!"'

Valenzuela, who races legally on tracks in Huntington Beach, said he couldn't understand why the pair were racing in broad daylight on a city street."

I'm about ready to call everyone I know, because those heretofore non-existent "tracks in Huntington Beach" would be big news around here.

Ontario is about 15 minutes from CA Speedway (Fontana dragstrip)....
