I'm putting on stock headgaskets soon and my friend suggested that I take a sanding block with 100 grit to clean the surface of the block. Does that sound right? What do you guys do to clean them up?

Thanks
George

I use the same method but NOT with 100 grit. Should use 320 automotive grade. Do not use a rubber block, but something flat
and hard. A block of steel about a foot long with the paper wrapped around it will do fine.

Thanks for the reply. The 320 grit sounds better to me. What kind of torque do you set the bolts at? I hear from 60lbs and up. I also am using arp.

Thanks
George

What about the metal chips getting into the cylinders?

I have a couple books on engine rebuilding and two of them say to rough the block with sandpaper prior to installing the heads but I am concerned about any metal getting into the cylinders and scoring the cylinder walls.

Hope to be doing my heads by next weekend, hopefully we have a concensus by then.

I would "assume" there would be compressed air to blow out the debris?
