Knock Sensor Location

I am trying to find a location to mount my '78 knock sensor on an '83 motor. Is there a reason I can't mount it to the aluminum intake? (poor ground?)

Thanks,

Trent

The knock sensor was moved to the block in 1980 when the aluminum intakes were first used. The aluminum would interfer with the sound frequency of the knocking.

Your '83 block should have a boss drilled and tapped on the top of the bellhousing mating surface. It is below where the PCV and EGR valves would be.

You can see the hole in this picture of a block from the backside:

Rich,

Thanks for the response. My block does not have this boss. The block number is 25506397 which checks out to be an '83 on the gnttype web page. Maybe it is a non turbo block with no provision for the sensor. I am in the process of drilling and tapping one of the unused head bolt holes.

Thanks,

Trent
