Intermittent knock and MAP sensor?

Hello All,

I have been trying to isolate an intermittent knock issue and I brought this up to a few friends of mine. Sometimes I can do a third gear pull and see no KR on the scanmaster and other times I see anywhere from 1-3 KR. I run straight 100 octane and I see around 18 lbs of boost when I get into it. I currently have a 2 bar MAP sensor. My friends believe that is the reason for the issue and that I should get a 3 bar MAP sensor because the 2 bar is good up to 14LBs or so. It is my understanding the MAP sensor is only used to report boost to the stock boost gauge in the car and the MAP sensor has no bearing on the ECM, fuel tables etc.

Will buying a 3-bar MAP sensor help correct the intermittent KR issue?

Thanks
Don

With a stock ECM you are correct about the use of the MAP sensor. It is only used for the dash boost gauge.

If the TT chip is programmable trying pulling 2 degrees of SA out while in 3rd and see if that alleviates the intermittent knocking.
