high rpm reading on dash

hello I have a 87 gn I own 2 of these cars the problem Im having with 1 is the I blew the head gasket so I just went ahead and had the motor rebuilt forged pistons and rods. Well my stock rpm gauge is reading really high 4.5k-5k and higher it runs like crap and it has no power could it be possible that the cam sensor was not put in right what should I be checking

Factory boost/rpm gauge is known for its unreliability. Do the search on setting cam sensor . Without going into detail first and utmost number 1 piston is set TDC.
