I don't think a bad MAF would cause a backfire, the stalling yeah...I'd just start simple first. Which simple starts at about 100 dollars..

I'm leaning toward a new timing chain and sprockets if this hasnt been replaced.

First let me say thanks for all the help, I really appreciate the advice and guidance. The issue was a worn timing sprockets, which due to my lack of time I’m having fixed.
Hopefully by the end of the week I’ll have the GN out and running, this waiting sucks!
