Codes 42-43???

Okay guys I had my 86 GN checked out at a local shop, and they said it thru codes 42 or 43, but they said the couldn't fix the problem. I read on (gnttype.org) what the codes are but, just want to get some more info on the solving the problem, what should I check or do first?

1st thing to do is clear the codes and see if they come back. It could be any thing from a faulty ECM, ignition module, crank sensor, or detonation sensor. BUT Please don't just start changing parts!!!!. If the code(s) come back, address the lowest number code first. If the code(s) come back, the time frame should be around a minute or so. Tell me what's happening
