Howdy gang,

My ultimate goal is to put together a sy-clone and matching TR. I would like them to have the same drivetrain. So i'm debating on which is better. The 4.3 or the 3.8. I've read a few places exclaiming that the 4.3 is essentially the stock vortec motor with dished pistons yielding a lower CR for the turbo. So basically... Which has the most potential? What are the pros/cons of each... and what would you do?

so lay it on me... 4.3 vs 3.8, which makes the best turbo engine?

Depends on how much money you want to spend....

All in all Id hafta to say the 3.8 gets the edge for parts availability (no budget priced hi po cranks for 4.3s), better aftermarket support, and easier tune-a-bility.

The 4.3 can be made stout without a doubt if youre familiar with it but you'll spend $$$s doing it and get some gray hair.

The original plan for the Syclone was to have the 3.8, but GM cheaped and went with the 4.3.... Like Myclone said, both can be built bullit proof. I would probably use a stock 3.8 over a stock 4.3 though.
