is anyone running this wheel/tire combo - 295/55 drag radials on 8.5" weld draglites w/ 3.5" backspacing? im currently running nitto 275/50 but im thinkin they are too short & i have alot of gap between the tire top & the wheel well lip. i want to fill it up & i want 295/50 but they are obviously not availible in a drag radial so it seems 295/55 is the best option to do what im wanting to do.

I have run that tire combo before what would you like to know?

295 is a lot of tire for a 8.5 rim? My son runs that size DR on his Shelby GT500 but I believe the rims are 9.5's.

I ran the 295/55/15 and the 295/65/15on an 8 inch rim with no issues fit great, drove and hooked awesome.i was able to get 10.5 on the contact patch and just shy of 12 inches belly to belly, didn't buldge the rim or roll around the turns and the sidewall was great for boosted launches.

I run a 255/50/17 Nitto street tire and wanted to go to a 275/40/17 DR but was worried that the 8's I run wouldn't be wide enough?

I can't help you there,I only play on 15s.i like rollout and sidewall on these cars.

i guess my question is the 295/55 too tall? did it look fat? id love to score a 27.5" tall tire but it dont exist in a drag radial so 295/55 is my pick. thoughts??

It's 27.9 tall just shy of 28 for the 295/55. Looked great and 60fts were 1.4 at the time, tire was handling solid 10 sec power.
