Best scan tool for Hot Air GN?

Thanks Thanks for the input. I e-mailed Ken about which version is best for a hot-air car. I think I'm going to go with TurboLink.

Best scan tool for Hot Air GN?

I've had a major missing / backfiring issue for almost two years now. I've replaced everything but the wiring harness. I want to get a scan tool and post the file here for all to see. What's the best scan tool for a stock 84? (It's going to stay stock too).

    New Injectors

    New Injectors

I'm going to try replacing the injectors on my 84 GN to try to solve a long-time problem. Heck... It's the only thing I haven't replaced yet! Any suggestions on the best injectors for the best price? This is a totally stock hot air & I plan on keeping it stock.

Anyone have an original ECM to spare?

Got an ECM on its way. Thanks for the ideas... We're talking about the fuel signal, not spark. I agree that it is least likely to be the ECM, BUT...at least this way I can very quickly and cheaply eliminate the possibility. Gut feeling says it's either injectors or harness. Right now...

Anyone have an original ECM to spare?

I've had a long history of my 84 GN kicking my A$$. I've had it for a year now and it has never really run. Click here to see the post with the full history. It is running very rich. I've finally taken it to a shop that I can trust. The scope has shown that the signal to the #5 cylinder...

FED UP! Idle & backfire problems

    * While running, push up on the EGR diaphragm and see if the car dies or tries to. It should. Tried it & it dies. * PCV system. You want no leaks and a GM valve ONLY. Checked the PCV.. OK * "Checked fuel pressure - 35psi at idle & steady 40psi under load" Does under load mean with the...

FED UP! Idle & backfire problems

Thanks for the ideas. I've checked most, but not all of these. Gotta go to work for now, but I'll write when I've checked them all. This was my daily driver, but it was getting so frustrating that I bought a new car yesterday. At least now I can not worry about re-assembling the car between...

FED UP! Idle & backfire problems

Thanks, I'll check it out. I did just check the the ECM out. The chip is really tight and the main connector seems tight w/o any visible corrosion. I have yet to try the voltages from the ECM chart. Time is scarce these days. That's why I bought a stock car... because I wanted the reliability. I...

FED UP! Idle & backfire problems

OK... I regapped to .035, AC R44TS. I checked the slop in the chain by observing the cam sensor. As I slightly rock the crank back & forth, the cam sensor rotates almost instantly. I don't have the equipment to measure how many degrees of play, but like I said, the cam sensor rotates almost...

FED UP! Idle & backfire problems

I've had it with this car! I'm ready to part-out this P.O.S. if I can't get it fixed soon....It's an 84GN...mostly stock. 90,000 miles. I bought several months ago from a "friend" (now an ex-friend) in Arizona. I live in Missouri now. It appeared to be in average condition for an 84. It didn't...

    Wastegate solenoid? & Poor idle.

Sounds cool. I was hoping I could find someone nearby. It may be awhile until I can take you up on that offer, but I'll keep in touch. ( Family life and all...). Another thing,... I don't think the ESC is working properly. I tapped away on the block and the timing did nothing. What's normal...

    Wastegate solenoid? & Poor idle.

Well, here's my first post ( At least since my account was cancelled  ) To make a long story short... I'm having problems at WOT. It sounds more like backfiring, but to be safe in case it's detonation, I adjusted the wastegate rod to lower boost. I lengthened to where there is no tension...
