Help, main bore & crank dimension specs on 109?

Was checking the main bearing clearances today and found them to be 2.5-3 thou. I'm using a new cat crank & Std. FM 107M 3/4 groove bearings. My machinist quoted me .0018 when I asked him but who knows how well he checked the clearance. The block was line honed with a girdle and I'm wondering...

Before taking my block to the machinist I had the main cap mating surfaces cut .004" for a line hone and had fitted the girdle to 3-4 thousands pan rail clearence (preload) with the main studs tightened down. I also found aluminum particles the size of pretzle salt stuck in the catalyst. Well I'm rebuilding the motor...

Anyone try this oiling system mod?

Has any one tried drilling the small hole in the oil pump cover so the oil has a straight instead of having to take a 90 and 180 degree turn to get to the gears? I read the post by earlbrown on the turbobuicks.com site: How to build a front cover/oil pump - TurboBuicks.com Seems like...

Setting the correct .005" preload on a girdle

I understand that the engine girdle needs about .005" preload on it for propper fiitup. Does this mean the gap between the girdle and the pan rail with the main studs tightened down or before everything is tightened down. The cat girdle instructions are useless and none of the threads are clear...
