    any ideas?

    shudder while idling in drive

Occasionally when parking or sitting in traffic (idling in drive), after the trans is hot, I get a shudder. The car doesn’t stall or bog down, it just bucks. It doesn’t matter what position the gear selector is in. The trans is non-lockup. Did I set clearances too tight on a clutch pack...

another intermediate band servo pin install question...

Thanks again Bison. I had used the screwdriver method but didn't think it was enough. Apparently I'm over engineering the whole thing.

another intermediate band servo pin install question...

In a recent thread, http://www.turbobuick.com/forums/transmission-talk/281517-servo-question.html, Bison said “I always set them (the intermediate servo piston) by feel and a visual on how much the band will move sideways with a screwdriver with the assembly installed.” he definitely has more...

    servo question

Bison, Would you please explain further what you mean by “I always set them by feel and a visual on how much the band will move sideways with a screwdriver with the assembly installed.”? I know the band will cause some resistance when the output shaft is turned clockwise, but how much? Is...

selective thrust washer for center section endplay

Chris, I'm not sure I'm picturing that right. When you say "Sometimes the center support is machined too deep." you must be referring to the side the direct drum comes in contact with. So if I assemble the center section (clutches removed?) on the table (center support on bottom, direct drum...

    washers in intermediate servo??

I found 2 washers in the intermediate servo piston assembly. They were on the end of the apply pin, between the inner and outer intermediate servo pistons (part #'s 19 and 21 below). From what I can see, they would cause the pin to apply the band with less piston travel. Not quite the same as...

selective thrust washer for center section endplay

It turned out I needed a thrust washer that was 0.160", so I added a brass washer behind one, then sanded the face of the plastic until it was right where I wanted it. I'm still slightly worried why I would need such a thick washer, but I don't see any reason it won't work. Has anyone else...

    servo question

The CK Manual states 0.060" will give the proper band adjustment. It also recommends using a band apply pin extension, which is pressed onto the pointed end of the pin, then ground to achieve the 0.060" clearance.

selective thrust washer for center section endplay

I measured the center section endplay, as described in the CK manual, and I think I may need a selective thrust washer that is thicker then a #15 from the list below. Would this much endplay imply that a part needs to be replaced? If so, what part? The thrust washer between the center support...

best direct frictions for my application?

Thanks for the replies. I guess I’m going to go with 6 Alto Reds. Any bad experience with the Kolene Steels, or is there just no benefit? Are they a good idea at higher power levels? The pump looks good. I have access to the right measuring equipment and I’m replacing the seals, rings and...

best direct frictions for my application?

looking for some advice/opinions. What direct frictions and steels should I use? Alto Red with Kolene steels? Raybestos Blue? It will be behind a 400" Pontiac in a '67 GTO, hard-driven street car, dyno'd 335hp and 350lb-ft at the wheels...for now. Followed CK's manual, latest CK calibration...

Is this the Alto Red band?

Thanks SSedan64. I just noticed in the description for 043962 it mentions "with wedge in Servo anchor (old style)". I guess that's not my main concern. My 1-2 shifts aren't that violent.

Is this the Alto Red band?

This is the band I expected to get. How wide should the band be? How wide is the factory band?

Is this the Alto Red band?

Can anyone confirm that this is the correct Alto Red band that many builders recommend? It says ALTO USA but the spaces in the friction material are squared off, I thought they are rounded. It has 83126 written on it. Also there is no extra reinforcement welded to the pin area. I just don't...

    How to contact CK Performance??

Does anyone have a phone number for CK Performance, that they know works? I would like to order some parts, but have not been able to reach him. I assume he's very busy. Thanks.

    reuse Alto band?

My friend who rebuilds trannys called it a green band. Alto's website mentions the Red band and the Super Duty Kevlar band. So I assume it's Kevlar. It's performed well. It really isn't shiny in person. Pictures of the drum are below. It's discolored but no signs of heat or blueing. I...

    reuse Alto band?

a new band it is... Thanks for all the replies. I guess I'll get a new band. Yes, the band is dark, but does not appear glazed. I assume the Alto Red band should stay red under normal use, since the fluid is red? I don't have pics of the drum at the moment (not home), but it does not look...
