I have to say, your ticking and ours seems to be on the same level. It does seem to stop under steady light load, as in holding a steady 60mph. We have a non-overdrive trans with no lock-up. When I listen carefully, I can hear "skips" in the ticking as well at idle. Does yours do this...

Subscribing. This is exactly how I would describe the noise our ‘78 makes. I would swear it was a rod bearing, but no rod bearing sounds that bad and lasts this long without at least getting worst. Has to be something else.

Its a '78, but I think it fits. My 15 year old bought this a few weeks ago. He's replacing the water pump at the moment.....hopefully that is the source of most of the bad engine noises, lol. [/IMG]
